One tool for GIF and WebP conversion
Convert up to 5 GIF images to WebP, or up to 5 WebP images to GIF. The button detects the uploaded format and chooses the opposite output. Each batch must contain only GIF or only WebP files; mixed batches show an error.
Animated images retain their motion and looping. WebP to GIF follows GIF color, transparency and timing limits. The live activity terminal reports frame reading, GIF preparation and verification, with elapsed time during encoding.
How to convert GIF and WebP images
- Upload up to 5 images, using only GIF or only WebP in one batch.
- Check the automatic Convert to Gif or Convert to Webp button label.
- Start conversion and follow each file and frame in the activity terminal.
- Download the converted image or ZIP archive, then preview the animation.
One converter for GIF to WebP and WebP to GIF
Upload GIF images and the button changes to Convert to Webp. Upload WebP images and it changes to Convert to Gif. The destination follows your source automatically, so there is no output format to select. You can convert one image or a batch of up to 5 images. Still images remain still, while animated images are processed as a sequence rather than flattened into their first frame.
Each batch must contain only one source format. Selecting GIF and WebP together shows an error and leaves your existing selection unchanged. The same rule applies when adding files in separate selections: remove the current files before switching formats. Unsupported image types are rejected. After a successful conversion, add a fresh batch to convert in the other direction.
Retain animation while respecting each format
GIF to WebP encodes the displayed frames and retains the original canvas size. Frame timing and finite or infinite looping are transferred into the destination format. GIF frame disposal and transparency are resolved before conversion so moving objects are rendered on the correct canvas instead of producing unwanted trails. For GIF to WebP, adjust WebP quality from 50% to 100%; 85% is selected by default. Lower values favor smaller files, while higher values favor image detail.
WebP to GIF retains the animation and dimensions, but GIF has a palette limited to 256 colors per frame and a single transparent color. Gradients, photographs and soft transparent edges can therefore look different. Semi-transparent pixels become either transparent or opaque. GIF frame delays use 10-millisecond steps, so WebP timing is rounded to that precision. These are limits of the destination format rather than quality settings you need to choose.
Keep the original if you need full-color WebP or smooth alpha transparency later. Changing the format does not guarantee a smaller file. A GIF can be substantially larger than its WebP source, especially for long animations with large dimensions. Preview the downloaded animation in the application where you intend to use it and check that its colors, motion and looping suit that destination.
Follow real file and frame activity
Choose your images, check the automatic button label, and start conversion. A scrollable activity terminal appears below the upload area while processing. It keeps one row per image, marks finished files as Done, and updates the active file with real frame counts during reading, GIF palette preparation and output verification. You can scroll back to inspect completed files while the remaining images run.
The encoding step shows an activity indicator and elapsed time because the encoder does not expose an exact percentage for that step. This avoids a progress bar sitting at an invented near-complete number. When all images are ready, download a single image directly or download the batch as a ZIP archive.
