720p and 1080p only reduce videos taller than the selected height. Smaller videos keep their original resolution. Aspect ratio is preserved.

Convert videos between WebM, MP4, MOV, MKV and AVI

Choose any of these five input formats and export to any of the five output formats. WebM and original resolution are selected by default. You can convert a file to the same format when you want a fresh encode or a lower resolution. One video up to 1 GB (1,024 MB) can be processed per job.

How to convert your video

  1. Select or drop a WebM, MP4, MOV, MKV or AVI file.
  2. Choose the output format, resolution and compression quality from 50% to 100%.
  3. Click Convert, wait for upload and conversion to finish, and download the result.

How resolution works

Original keeps the video's displayed dimensions. A 1920×1080 video becomes 1280×720 when you choose 720p. A 640×360 video stays 640×360 with either 720p or 1080p, because the tool does not enlarge smaller footage. Portrait videos use the same height cap. When reducing a video, dimensions may round down slightly to fit the encoder.

Sound, quality and compatibility

The converter keeps the video and its first audio track when present. It preserves duration and uses a new video encode. Adjust the compression quality slider from 50% for smaller files to 100% for higher quality; 85% is selected by default. Output size depends on the source, format and resolution, so a chosen quality percentage does not guarantee the same percentage of space saved. Subtitles, extra audio tracks and attachments are not copied. These are standard video exports; transparency and HDR are not preserved. Keep your source if those features matter.

MP4 uses H.264 video with AAC sound for common playback needs. MOV and MKV also use H.264 with AAC. WebM uses VP9 with Opus audio. AVI uses MPEG-4 video with MP3 audio for older applications. A valid container can still contain a codec that is unavailable on the server; unreadable files show a conversion error.

Preview and conversion progress

Choose a video, output format and resolution, then click Convert. Some formats may not support a preview in your browser. Follow the progress indicator and download your finished video when it is ready. You can cancel while uploading, waiting or converting.
